چکیده

ABSTRACT We report results of an auditory navigation experiment. In auditory navigation sound is employed as a navigational aid in a virtual environment. In our experiment, the test task was to find a sound source in a dynamic virtual acoustic environment. In dynamic auralization the movements of the subject are taken into account in acoustic modeling of the room. We tested the effect of three different factors (stimulus, panning method and acoustic environment) to the number of errors and to the time spent in the test in finding the target. The results, which were also statistically validated, proved that noise is the best stimulus, reverberation complicates the navigation and simple models of spatial hearing give enough cues for auditory navigation.

Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network

Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...

Precision and Reliability Incensement of Inertial Navigation System with Rotation and Redundancy

Precision and reliability are two main performance characteristic in low-cost Inertial Navigation System(INS). Increase of precision in low-cost INS without auxiliary sensors is main challenge. Bias instability leads to position drift error in inertial navigation system. In addition, fault occurrence makes the sensor reliability is decreased. Rotation of Inertial Measurement Unit(RIMU) and use ...

Virtual Acoustic Technology: Its Role in the Development of an Auditory Navigation Beacon for Building Evacuation

This paper addresses the issue of escape from unfamiliar, smoke filled buildings such as department stores or hotels where being blinded by smoke may result in death to its occupants. It proposes that we may be able to apply concise auditory information to the escape procedure. In order to achieve this, predictive virtual acoustic techniques have been employed to assess its feasibility.
